Prepare to be transported to a world of sonic storytelling and cultural exploration as the Journey to Jazz Festival returns for its third edition in the picturesque town of Prince Albert.

From 1 to 4 May 2025, this extraordinary event will merge music, culture, and the breathtaking landscapes of the Great Karoo, offering an unmissable experience for jazz enthusiasts and adventure seekers alike.

This year’s festival boasts a stellar line-up of South African and international talent, carefully curated by creative director Brenda Sisane and artistic director Kyle Shepherd. Highlights include:

  • Hilton Schilder: The Cape Jazz icon whose multi-instrumental mastery and storytelling captivate audiences.
  • Ernie Smith: Award-winning artist blending jazz, African rhythms, and R&B.
  • Carlo Mombelli & The Prisoners of Strange – Edition 2: Avant-garde compositions that walk the line between genius and the surreal.
  • Siya Makuzeni: A genre-defying trombonist and vocalist.
  • Paolo Damiani Last Land Band: An Italian trio exploring humanity’s infinite possibilities through music.
  • Kujenga: A Cape Town collective celebrating Black culture with vibrant improvisations.
  • Outeniqua High School Jazz Band: Showcasing South Africa’s rising talent.

More than just music

The festival’s charm extends beyond its music. Visitors can immerse themselves in Prince Albert’s famed Karoo hospitality through the ‘Groet is ’n Moet’ programme, which includes activities like:

  • Artist-led masterclasses
  • Ghost tours
  • Guided walks in the Swartberg mountains
  • A neighbourhood goods market
  • A night at the museum dinner

A festival with heart

Established by the Prince Albert Community Trust (PACT) in 2023, Journey to Jazz is committed to sustainable development. The event not only entertains but uplifts, employing over 70 local youth in its production and fostering skills and cultural exchange.
