Durbanville Sauvignon Blanc is celebrating five years of collaboration with the release of its 2026 vintage – and wine lovers can be among the first to taste it at a special Sauvignon Soirée in May.
The highly anticipated 2026 Durbanville Sauvignon Blanc, the signature collaborative wine created by leading wineries in Cape Town’s Northern suburbs, has been released following five years of collaboration.
The new vintage will make its public debut at the Durbanville Wine Valley Sauvignon Soirée at Nitida Wine Estate on Friday, 8 May 2026.
Five years of Durbanville Sauvignon Blanc
The Durbanville Sauvignon Blanc collaboration began in 2022, bringing together leading winemakers from across the valley to create a wine that reflects the area’s cool-climate conditions and distinctive terroir.
Five years later, the project has developed into a showcase for South African Sauvignon Blanc, with participating winemakers refining the blend and building consistency from one vintage to the next.
The collaboration has also helped strengthen Durbanville’s reputation as one of the country’s leading Sauvignon Blanc-producing regions.
For wine enthusiasts, the 2026 release offers the opportunity to taste the latest vintage while discovering how Sauvignon Blanc develops with age.
Taste the 2026 vintage first
The Durbanville Sauvignon Blanc 2026 will be unveiled at the annual Sauvignon Soirée, hosted by the Durbanville Wine Valley’s 12-winery collective.
Each ticket includes unlimited tastings from the participating Durbanville wine farms, as well as a selection of aged Sauvignon Blancs chosen by the individual winemakers.
The tasting provides an opportunity to explore both the character of the new collaborative vintage and the ageability of Sauvignon Blanc – a variety often associated primarily with fresh, youthful wines.
With tickets for the annual event traditionally in high demand, early booking is recommended.
Which wineries are involved?
The 2026 Durbanville Sauvignon Blanc features premium grapes from a selection of established wineries in the region, including:
- Diemersdal
- De Grendel
- D’Aria
- Durbanville Hills
- Groot Phesantekraal
- Klein Roosboom
- Maastricht
- Nitida
Diemersdal was entrusted with the final blending process, with winemaker Juandré Bruwer overseeing the blend.
Veteran winemaker Charles Hopkins of De Grendel led the panel of participating wineries during the preparatory tastings.
The collaborative approach is central to the project, bringing together different vineyards, winemaking styles and expertise to create a wine that represents the broader Durbanville region.
A celebration of Durbanville’s wine community
According to Bruwer, the collaboration represents the spirit of the Durbanville wine community, with the participating producers working together to create a wine that reflects the region’s soils, personalities and values.
The 2026 vintage also arrives with a history of local and international recognition, adding another chapter to the story of Durbanville Sauvignon Blanc.
Its release is being celebrated around International Sauvignon Blanc Day on 1 May, when Sauvignon Blanc enthusiasts around the world raise a glass to the popular white wine variety.
